Tulum Eats: Dining Beyond Tacos at These Must-Try Restaurants

Tulum is a small town located on the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, known for its pristine beaches, Mayan ruins, and vibrant nightlife. It's also home to some of the best restaurants in the region, offering a wide range of cuisines that cater to all tastes and budgets. Here are some of the top restaurants in Tulum that you should definitely check out on your next visit:

Burgerito

If you're craving a delicious burger while in Tulum, look no further than Burgerito. This popular spot serves up some of the best burgers in town, made with locally sourced ingredients and cooked to perfection. Whether you opt for the classic cheeseburger or something more adventurous, like the BBQ bacon burger, you won't be disappointed.

My favourite dishes at Burgerito in Tulum are the fried chicken fries, the Smashburger BBQ Bacon Burger, and the Meloni cocktail. The fried chicken fries are a must-try, with tender, juicy chicken coated in a crispy, flavourful batter. The Smashburger BBQ Bacon Burger is another standout, with a juicy patty topped with tangy BBQ sauce, crispy bacon, and all the usual fixings. The Meloni cocktail is a refreshing option to wash it all down, made with watermelon, vodka, and a hint of lime.

Canova

For a fine dining experience, head to Canova. This upscale restaurant serves Italian-inspired dishes made with the freshest ingredients, including locally caught seafood and locally grown produce. The menu changes seasonally to take advantage of the freshest ingredients available, so there's always something new to try.

My favourite dishes at Canova in Tulum are the Burrata salad, the beef carpaccio and truffle, the lobster linguini, and the beef filet with dijon sauce and smoked mashed potato. The Burrata salad is a delicious starter with creamy burrata cheese, ripe tomatoes, and a drizzle of olive oil. The beef carpaccio and truffle is another must-try, with thin slices of raw beef topped with shaved truffle and a light lemon dressing. The lobster linguini is a decadent main course, with tender lobster and al dente pasta in a rich, creamy sauce. The beef filet with dijon sauce and smoked mashed potato is another standout, with a perfectly cooked filet served with a tangy dijon sauce and creamy mashed potato.

Sonido del Mar

A new restaurant that is hard to find online is Sonido del Mar located right beside Cavova listed above. You wont find much information about them online, as it is on the street in a yoga hotel, but this place offers more than what you might expect.

My favourite dishes include the fish balls, caprese salad skewers, seafood gnocci, and pannacotta dessert. The fish balls are crispy on the outside and perfectly tender on the inside, and they are served with a tangy sauce that perfectly complements the flavour of the fish. The caprese salad skewers are a refreshing and colourful appetizer, with juicy cherry tomatoes, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil all skewered together and drizzled with a balsamic reduction. The seafood gnocci is a creamy and flavourful pasta dish, with plump gnocci, succulent seafood, and a rich tomato sauce. And to top it all off, the pannacotta dessert is a creamy and velvety delight, with a hint of sweetness and a delicate flavour that is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth.

Potheads

Potheads is a fun and funky spot that serves up delicious Mexican-style street food, like tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. What sets Potheads apart is that all of their dishes are infused with THC, the psychoactive compound found in marijuana. While marijuana is not legal in Mexico, Potheads offers a unique dining experience that you won't find anywhere else.

Burritos Beer

As the name suggests, Burritos Beer is a great place to grab a cold brew and a delicious burrito. They offer a wide range of filling options, including traditional meats like pork and chicken, as well as vegetarian options like grilled vegetables and tofu. They also have a great selection of beers on tap, making it the perfect spot to relax after a day at the beach.

La Braceria

For a true taste of traditional Mexican cuisine, head to La Braceria. This restaurant specializes in grilled meats, or "carne asada," and serves up a variety of dishes cooked over an open flame. Whether you opt for a grilled steak or something more unique, like grilled octopus, you won't be disappointed.

Nao

For a more upscale dining experience, check out Nao. This chic restaurant serves up a fusion of Mexican and Asian flavours, offering dishes like tuna tataki tacos and pork belly bao buns. The beautiful setting and sophisticated menu make it the perfect spot for a special occasion.

No matter what type of cuisine you're in the mood for, Tulum has a restaurant that will satisfy your cravings. From casual street food to fine dining, there's something for everyone in this vibrant town.
